We had the most wonderful time last Sunday, surrounded by our family and friends as we found out whether our sweet baby is a boy or a girl. And it’s a BOY! We had our 20 week ultrasound the previous Friday and made sure to tell them we didn’t want to know the sex right then and there, but rather wanted the results put in a sealed envelope for us to take to the bakery. There are so many fun ideas on Pinterest for Gender Reveal Parties, but an excuse to eat a cupcake seemed like the most fun way to go! So, we took our envelope to Publix, and ordered several cupcakes to be made with blue or pink frosting piped into the center, depending on whether the results inside the envelope said boy or girl.
Josh’s mom and dad drove, while his sister flew, in from Virginia to share in this monumental day with us. My sister and her family, and my mom and dad, made the drive from about an hour away to be with us, and many close friends came to share in the surprise too. It meant the world to us to be surrounded by our loved ones when we took that first bite and eagerly looked to see what color was inside! We’ve both felt so strongly from the beginning that it was a little boy, and while we would have been equally thrilled to find out it was a girl, it was special to know that the little life growing inside of me is indeed a boy, as we thought of him all along.
His name is Brighton, we are still working on a middle name, but Brighton has been our number one pick for a boy since we found out we were pregnant. I was getting ready one morning, and out of no where the name Brighton for a sweet baby boy popped into my head. I shared it with Josh and he immediately loved it.
My sister helped with all the creative details for the party, she made a lot of the pink and blue tasty sweets, all the fun signs, and created the little areas for people to vote whether they thought it would be a boy or girl. She’s a natural at this party stuff and enjoys the details, I keep telling her she needs to start a little party planning business!
We’ve done a lot of work on our home the last six months, from painting nearly every surface, to changing all light fixtures, adding built-ins, a mantle, modifying the kitchen, and the list goes on. We have several things we still hope to get done before Brighton arrives, but it was such a joy to finally have our house open to so many friends and family. I plan to post some before and after pictures once we get the last of our list accomplished!
Overall, I cannot imagine this day having gone any better than it did, it is a day Josh and I will always remember, and will be a lot of fun to share with Brighton when he is old enough to understand just how many people already loved him before he was born!
{To the left are fun pink and blue sweets; we had chocolate covered marshmallow rattles, chocolate covered Oreos and Nutter Butters, chocolate dipped pretzels, blue and pink M&M’s, cotton candy, and rice crispy treats. On the right are fun snacky things to represent the salty/savory cravings I’ve had through my pregnancy; plantain chips, sweet potatoes chips, sunflower seeds, inner peas, and white cheddar popcorn.}
{Old wives tales, turned out they were right in this case, it is a boy!}
{The two different ways we had for people to vote; to the left, you vote and take a pink pin for a girl and a blue pin for a boy. To the right we had blue and pink ink to make a balloon with your thumbprint, then write your name in that balloon. I took these pictures early on, but wish I’d have gotten one with the final count, I think overall, just a few more people voted boy than girl.}
My incredible In-Laws, Josh’s dad, mom, and sister – could not have imagined this day without these three!
My mom and dad to left, and my sister to the right – I treasure these three more than words can say! It’s been a struggle to not be able to ask my Mom questions during this pregnancy, but because of the loving mother she has always been, I have no doubt that if she could, she would tell me how excited she is for us, that she believes Brighton is a tremendous blessing from God, and that we’ll make great parents.
