Disclaimer: If baby rooms aren’t your thing, feel free to delete this post and stay tuned for the next one, I promise we’ll be back to clean-eating recipes in no time!

I know my posts have been few and far between lately, and this nursery is a big reason WHY! If you’ve followed along the last several months, then you know that Josh and I are expecting our first baby the end of July any day now! We could not be more excited to meet our little guy. We moved into our house August of last year and found out we were pregnant in November. With a large list of things we wanted to do to the house {change lighting placement and fixtures, paint all walls/ceilings/doors/trims, modify kitchen, outdoor projects, new built-ins, fire-place mantle, organize cabinets, and the list goes on!} before our bundle of joy arrives, we set out to tackle this long list with every minute of our spare time. Once Brighton arrives, we are both fairly certain there will be no time, money, or care to work on these things, as our lives will forever be changed in the very best way. We’ve loved seeing out home become what we imagined it could be, knowing it is where so much of our next years will be spent with our growing family, but also hoping it is a place that is constantly open to family and friends as we build memories and live life with others.

Anyway, I promise I have every intention of picking back up with the recipes and sharing on a more regular basis in the future, but for now I’m excited to share with you some pictures of Brighton’s nursery as well as our experience thus far with the Diaper Genie and how we hope it makes our lives a little easier these next several months! Let’s take a quick peak at his room, before we dive into the Diaper Genie Essentials, how the Diaper Genie works, and the ease of emptying and changing the Diaper Genie refills.

Update:  This room has been featured on Shutterfly! Check out their 100 Cute Baby Boy Room Ideas!

I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that we went with an animal theme, mainly safari animals, but animals of all sorts have made their way into this space. I wanted to keep things mainly neutral, with a few accents of blue here and there. I went with Farrell Calhoun’s Burberry beige for the wall color and was able to calculate the amount and price. We bought these great little cloud decals from TheLovelyWall‘s Etsy shop in a slate blue color, they are reposition-able and added a little interest to the crib wall.

I love these little animals prints, they were one of the first animal items I fell in love with when we found out we were pregnant and I was pretty determined to incorporate them into his room – another Etsy find.

And here’s our little changing table station. I really wanted to keep the nursery feeling clean, but I absolutely love bringing in older pieces to add character. We found this little jewel below on Craigslist. It’s a 1958 Century piece that was built for the Army Barracks and a high schooler salvaged it and refinished it as part of his woodworking class, he did a beautiful job! Not only does it provide storage and character in the room, but I have no doubt we will be sending A LOT of time in front of this little chest.

Notice to the right, our oh-so-important Diaper Genie! Josh did some reading on the front end when creating our Target Baby registry and this guy was an absolute must for the list. It’s Ultimate Odor Lock system features a 7-layer refill bag, double clamp, and built-in properties to inhibit odors caused by bacteria along with a carbon filter to absorb and lock in strong diaper odors. I’m guessing as quickly as we’ll be going through these diapers, that we’ll have no desire to constantly take them out to the outdoor trash – thus desperately needing this odor locking genie!

As a first time mom, I am speaking completely from what I’ve read, no real-life experience here, but I know an important task that can often be forgotten is tracking baby’s dirty diapers to ensure they are getting all the nutrition they need. We found this great little log to help us better track Brighton’s wet and dirty diapers along with feeding times and amounts. You can print your own Baby Log here!

Another thing I can’t help but mention about the Diaper Genie is it’s simple, clean line appearance. As an Interior Designer, I may not always be able to make our home look exactly as I want, due to time and budget, but with each and every room, I’ve tried to make it as functional, yet visually appealing as possible. Knowing that this is a vital piece to making our daily lives easier, I love that it’s not an eyesore in the room.

The refills can easily be purchased at Target, in a single or double pack, we went ahead and purchased the double. The refill works as a system with either the Diaper Genie Elite or Diaper Genie Essentials Pails. Each refill holds up to 270 newborn diapers, and we’ll always know when a Diaper Genie Refill needs to be replaced as a black indicator line will tell when the refills are almost out.

Anything to help make our lives a little easier, with a little less questioning as we figure things out, is something I’m all in favor of!

In addition to the benefits of the Diaper Genie on a day-to-day basis, there are additional benefits to be found with the new Diaper Genie “Mommy Time” Rewards Program. In wrapping up, here are a few more pictures of Brighton’s room, highlighting some of the special gifts others have given us, along with sweet little animals to help carry out the theme – look at that Elephant hamper, is not the cutest?! And the old wooden toy box above was Josh’s from when he was a little boy, so special to now have it for our little boy!

Josh’s dad cut us this large piece of wood, he knew I had wanted one similar when we were in Vermont a few years back, to use for food photography. While I adore it for food photography, it’s a pretty heavy chunk of wood and we thought it would make the perfect side table. We ordered the steel hairpin legs and now it’s one of my favorite pieces in the room!

And this sweet little book, is a one we bought in Vermont on our second trip to the beautiful state, we knew we were praying for a baby, but weren’t pregnant yet. We found this book and immediately loved the idea for a nursery, so it was a big part of the inspiration!

More sweet animal gifts from close friends and family – look at that sloth!

One of my clients is a graphic illustrator/artist and she made this incredible little “Sweet Dreams” piece for Brighton, so talented and SO thoughtful!

And notice that little sheepskin rug in front of the crib? We’re hoping big “brother”, aka Tucker, feels the need to sleep in there once Brighton does, to protect him, thus giving us a little more room back in our bed! We have another sheepskin rug by the back door which is where he spends a large majority of his time, keeping an eye on the back yard.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the little tour of Brighton’s room!
